CHAPTER 1
Welcome to Tinem
For centuries the 4 Imperial Kingdoms have been at war. The war has been fuelled
by the lust for power, wealth and religious dominance. People have fought constantly
over centuries only to die for a cause people have started to forget. The true reason
behind the Great War has been lost to rumours and lies. Leaders speak of the greater
good and how it will work out for the best but every citizen knows more people will
be lost to a forgotten cause.
“My sons, brothers and fathers…Stand tall through this darkness and the light will
conquer all!” said Rayd as he stood in front of his 100,000 man strong army.
“Today we will face a day where we will loose many men and brothers but we will
stand victorious over the tyrant who looks to take our lands.”
The men all cheered and pumped their swords and shields into the air
“Have faith in my guidance and I promise a future of wealth and fortune. I promise
a future where we don’t need to live in fear of our tyrant brothers. A future when we
can call Lisivean our home!”
The men cheered again and started to beat their shields with their swords.
“Onwards my brothers, onwards together into a more prosperous civilization!”
The more Rayd spoke the more the men became convinced the war was for a good
cause. He ignored his advisors despite their desperate pleas to stop.
“The men are not ready. They have not completed their training! Half of them can’t
even fight let alone swing their sword!” Hinira proclaimed.
“Quite! You will mind your manners while in my presence peasant.” Rayd yelled.
“You’re like all the other Rulers, nothing but a pig headed fool who sees nothing but
gold.” Hinira stated.
“Leave! You’re presence here is unwelcome at the most. You’re services are no
longer needed”
Hinira left with his head down cursing under his breath. Hinira was the best
swordsman in the northern kingdom and has seen what war can do to the lesser
trained warriors. As Hinira was leaving a hand grabbed him by the shoulder.
He turned to find Anurn staring him in the face.
“Don’t let him get to you” she said.
“You know, we know and they know these men are not are not trained. He relies on
those fools believing that they will win and he hopes bravery will prevail”
“Fools the lot of them, I’ve finished working for a man who can’t see clearly” Hinira
said.
Anurn shook her head as she watched him walk out of the building. Anurn is the
greatest summoner in the Northern Kingdom. She has seen many a battle where she
relied on her summoned beasts to aid her comrades in war.
“Anurn, leave him. He is no help to us while he is being stubborn like this.” Said
Chesam.
“He’ll be back, he loves war too much.”
Anurn turned and walked to the balcony. She looked out over the mass of people
as the disbanded and started to go home. It was only a few days now until the army
was deployed for war. Nobody knew the full extent of what terror and chaos this war
would bring.
The next day Hinira made his way to Anurns’ living quarters. He knocked on the
door. Silence. He knocked again a little harder to see if she heard. Silence again.
“Anurn! Anurn! Are you there?” he called.
It was met with silence again. He became worried and kicked in the door. He rushed
through the house searching for her but found nothing. He stood in the middle of the
dining area and looked down at the table. He found a note which read…
“A world without war is a world without fear. A life without fear is a world
without terror. We send this note as a warning to all. Re-think your decision
before you wage war against our great legion. You’ll be met by a force far
greater than you’ve ever seen. You’ll see beasts you’ve never fought. Your
town will be brought to rubble and the empire of Tiatas will reign supreme.
Fear our dominance and fear our wrath.
Eceru”
Hinira scrunched the note into a ball and threw it at the ground.
“They’ll pay for this, every last one of them.” He whispered.
He left Anurns house and ran towards the citadel. He burst into the Generals Hall out
of breath.
“My lord” he panted
“Eceru has taken Anurn! They’ve kidnapped her!”
“Keep calm Hinira, our seers saw this.” Rayd said.
“YOU KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN!? We could have stopped this!” Hinira cried.
“Calm yourself! Don’t forget your place!” Rayd exclaimed.
Hinira could feel his face burning red but he knew he’d be removed again if he didn’t
keep his cool.
“Sorry my lord, my feelings got the better of me. How do you propose we get Anurn
back?” asked Hinira.
“Don’t fear my son. We have had scouts inside their city for months now. They’re
waiting for our signal and they’ll assassinate their war general!”
Hinira could feel his anger slowly calming down. The scouts were some of the best
trained soldiers in Tinem. Trained to be so stealthy you wouldn’t hear them coming
until they cut your throat.
“Will they get Anurn back?” Hinira asked
“If our plan goes successfully Ardams’ general will be dead and Anurn will be back
in our city within a day.”
Hinira let out a sigh of relief. He couldn’t stand idly by knowing that the love of his
life had been taken and presumed dead.
Chapter 2
The Assassination
Inezkim crouched in the dark of an ally way and watched as the guards walked by.
He had to use the cover of night so he wouldn’t get caught. He left his hideout and
stalked behind the guards. As they turned down an alleyway he took the opportunity
and struck. He stuck with such speed the guards were dead before they hit the floor.
He dragged their lifeless bodies into an abandoned house and covered them with
rubble. No one could know he was here. If they found him, he’d be hung in the town
square and showed as a trophy.
He continued to make his way towards the military camp to find General Tindal. The
city of Ardam was one of the biggest in the Eastern Kingdom. It was the worlds’
largest trading city where travelling merchants from across the world to trade precious
stones and gem, soft fur from exotic animals, weapons, armour and potions. When the
city is in full trade musical buskers would play the softest of music as you browsed
the markets.
He reached the Military camp to find the guards asleep. Nothing could be easier than
sneaking past these two lumbering grunts. He slipped over the front gate and made
his way to the capital tent. As he made his way close he could see a light flickering
behind the closed tent doors.
“You fool!” cried someone inside the tent.
“You have brought war to this land! Our city is now in danger because of your foolish
act! You will be the demise of our city.”
The tent doors opened and a short man dressed in a long white robe exited. Inezkim
had never seen this man before. He stood about 4 foot tall and wore a white robe laced
with gold trimming. He had a long white beard and wore glasses that sat on the tip of
his nose. The man left the compound and headed towards the church. Once the man
and his guards where gone, Inezkim made his way towards the tent. He crept closer
and closer until he heard *crack*…he had stepped on a sick.
“What was that” he heard a guard say.
“Go take a look, it’s probably nothing!” Another guard said.
The guard stepped out of his tent with his sword drawn.
“Who’s there?” the guard called.
Inezkim froze making sure he didn’t make a sound.
“Anyone out there?” the guard called again.
Isp-nah-dor whispered Inezkim and within no time at all he had become a shadow of
the night. He crept around behind the guards as light as wind. He was undetectable
and with the cover of the night he was but a stealthy assassin. He made quick work of
the two unsuspecting guards and ended their lives before the had time to realise what
was happening.
Inezkim made his way into the tent to find General Tindal asleep in his quarters. He
was as unsuspecting as the guards where just moments ago. Inezkim released his
cloaking and made his way over to the bed. He looked down and whispered good
night war dog and slit his throat. He didn’t have long until they would found the
body. He turned around and ran for the door. He still needed to find the prison yard
where Anurn was being held. He fled the barracks and made his way back into the
town centre. He could hear the guards yelling for support. It wouldn’t be long until
the town was on lock down and the guards caught Inezkim. The prison was located
on the Far East side of the town and he had to make his way through the city slums.
He couldn’t believe the poverty that was found in this small section of the town.
Children were crying, rats were crawling over sleeping people and the stench was
potent. He covered his face and quickly pushed through the crowded ally way. He
finally made his way out onto the other side and stood in front of 6 large metal cages.
The smell of death lingered in the air.
“Anurn!” he called.
There was no reply.
“Anurn!” he called again and was met with silence again.
“Anur..” he was interrupted
“I am over here! Quickly they will be back soon!”
Inezkim ran to the cage and released the latches.
“Inezkim! You couldn’t have come at a more convenient time! I can’t walk, they’ve
broken my foot” she said.
“Don’t worry; I’ll carry you to my horse. You’ll be save don’t worry”
The gate was located just behind the prison cages and his horse was not far from that
gate. He picked Anurn up in his arms and ran to the gate.
“STOP THEM!” shouted a guard.
Inezkim turned to see 3 guards standing with their swords drawn. He didn’t waste
time. He started running again and busted through the gates. He made a quick turn left
and kept hidden in the foliage as he ran towards his horse.
“GET BACK HERE!” called the guards again.
The guards were gaining on him but he could see his horse in the distance. He
whistled for his horse. The horse stoped just meters in front of him and he hoisted
Anurn onto the horses back. He climbed onto the horse and sped off just as the guards
got close.
Chapter 3
The Return
“Move! Get out of the way!” cried Inezkim
By the time they rode into the city Anurn was unconscious. She was bleeding from a
wound on her back and she was looking more and more pale.
“Inezkim!” called Hinira
“The infirmary is this way!” called Hinira.
Hours had passed and Hinira passed backwards and forwards waiting for the doctor to
give him a glimpse of good news. The door swung open and the doctor walked out.
“She’ll be okay but her ankle was broken in 10 different places. We’ve done
everything we can but it looks like she may not be able to walk again” the doctor said.
Hiniras heart dropped.
“Is there a chance she will recover?” Hinira asked.
“It doesn’t look well but we can pray” the doctor said.
